  • Exchange 2003 Disaster Recovery Virtual Lab

Have you ever had to spend 30 minutes explaining to someone how to recover a mailbox of a user that was accidentally deleted?  Was it honestly more like 1 hour?  Do you work in an environment where you are the "Exchange guy" and every other person will ask you how to do it instead of reading the Exchange 2003 Disaster Recovery Operations Guide?  Or are you in the position where you are trying to teach junior admins, the backup admin or another person how to perform a restore and you just don't have a lab or the time to build one?  Well Microsoft has heard your plea and has developed a virtual lab to teach administrators how to restore a deleted user, mailbox and how to restore a mail store.  Here is the link.

  • Gartner Report: Microsoft’s Exchange Server 2007 Could Set the Future of E-mail

Gartner has released their report on Exchange 2007 and how it could set the future of email.  Some highlights included are unified messaging services, mobile services and hosted exchange.

Once you work with some of these features, you will find them to be very powerful and you may find yourself wondering, "How did life exist before Exchange 2007?"

Overall I think that Gartner missed the boat on a few key points in the article, but did provide the counterpoint to a core application in many businesses' infrastructure.  The paper is a decent read and gives some relevant information about the products history, lifecycle and a look into the crystal ball for Exchange 14.
