As mentioned earlier one of the coolest new features that will be introduced in Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 is Standby Continuous Replication (SCR). Scott Schnoll blogged about some more details about this feature here.

He listed some unique requirements for SCR:

  • SCR supports having multiple replication targets per storage group.
  • SCR supports having mulitple sources replicate to a single target machine. You can use a single site to aggregate replicas.
  • SCR includes delaying the replay activity. This way with multiple targets you can have one at 4 hours behind and another at 8 hours behind, protecting against data corruption events.
  • SCR allows log files to be truncated at the SCR source as soon as they are inspected by all of the SCR target machines.
  • You cannot back up an SCR copy. The database headers for SCR copies are updated, and the log files are truncated, when supported backups are taken against the source storage group even when it is against a LCR or CCR storage group.
  • A standalone Mailbox server acting as a target must not have LCR enabled for any storage groups.
  • A passive cluster node atcting as a target must be a member of a cluster without any clustered mailbox servers.
