This is pretty cool news. You can now download hotfixes without having to call into Microsoft. Usually if you find a KB article that solves a problem with a hotfix it usually suggests that you call in to PSS obtain that hotfix.

If you pay for a Premier contract you usually can just download the hotfix from the premier site, but for those people with standard PSS contracts or no contract you had to call in, wait on hold, and tell the PSS rep why you need the fix. Now for some of the patches you can fill out a form and get an e-mail with the download link for the patch.

The form is here: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus2/emailcontact.aspx?scid=sw;en;1410&WS=hotfix

Of course the reason a hotfix isn't already listed for download on a KB article is usually because it hasn't been tested for regressions so when you get these hotfixes they may cause other "undocumented features". So you will be using the patches at your own risk.

Try this out and let me know how it works.

Thanks to bink.nu and Steve Patrick for posting this!
