Exchange 2003 RTM supports Server Active Sync for Inbox, Calendar and Contacts over the air. Also with Exchange 2003 RTM Pocket PC PhoneEdition/Smartphones are able to do a v1 push-type Always-Up-To-Date (or Almost Up To Date as I like to call it) which relies on SMS messages which tends to not work the best. But is available today and it works and it also allows you to schedule update to happen every 10 minutes or whatever fits your liking. This also works with Windows Mobile 5 devices. Exchange 2003 SP2 maintains backward compatability to the v1 AUTD process however it also alows for a new "true-push" method. This method requires Windows Mobile 5 and the Messaging and Security Feature Pack. As of right now you can purchase a few select WM5 devices however MSFP has not been released yet, and if you purchase a WM5 device now you are not guaranteed an upgrade to the MSFP. Its not that you don't get any benefits from having a WM5 device without the MSFP, as if you have Exchange 2003 SP2 you can now also sync Tasks over the air directly with the server :) More info on MSFP: http://www.microsoft.com/exchange/evaluation/bettertogether/bt_mobile.mspx
