I need to have multiple Exchange 2007 servers in one domain. This is because they have 3 sites that are all connected and need to be able to send internal email if one site goes down. Is this possible?

Also I have 1 firewall that all sites use as a default gateway to the internet. Now sending out emails should not be an issue but when emails come in how should I forward them so that they reach the right server? Each Exchange server has just that site/dept mailboxes.

This is a pretty common scenario, so you are not alone. If you are looking just for site redundancy, and it is a small server (less than 100 users/site) you can put a single server that is the mailbox, Client Access, Hub Transport and domain controller. From recent events in a similar environment, I'd shy away from running print services on the server as it has a tendancy to destroy Exchange/AD performance.

Thanks for your reply. I plan to run a server at each location and have it do mailbox, client access, hub transport and dc. My question is how do I get emails that are coming in on a single IP to be routed to the proper exchange server?

So all these offices have a single gateway at the main location. I need for emails coming in on this gateway address to be routed to the proper exchange server/mailbox. I am not sure how to accomplish this as I have to setup port forwarding on a single ip.

You will need to create an outbound connection on the server you want to act as a gateway. Also, you will need to set the hub transport server to allow incoming anonymous connections.

As for routing between the sites, be sure to have your AD sites defined properly, if you do you should be all set for routing.
