Sleep

Ok here is the premble;

I got a system Which was a single DC 2ksp4 running Exchange 2000.  This domain has quite a big server foot print since we have Sharepoint, an ERP system and a few other apps running. And no test Enviroment.....

So, I have taken the AD to V31 basiclly Did the Forest and Domain Preps off 2003r2 x32.  I also added a 2003r2 DC and moved all the roles to it.  FSMO, GC, OM, RID and Infrastructure...

Now the Problem,  I have 2 server ready to roll up on 2007.  One for the Mailbox and another for the Hub and Client Access.  But,  I get an Operating System version 5.0 (2195) SP4.  The Minimum version required is 5.2 (3790) SP1 error on the Readiness Check of the ex2007 install.

I got 2 books which say to upgrade the DC version but since it runs Exchange 2000 I can't install 2003r2 on it.

So; anyone have any ideas on how I can overcome this? Geeked

I read through your message and thought I understood it but I guess I don't. at least not fully. So I need to ask some perhaps dumb questions.

  • What OS are you running on the new servers that you are trying to install Exchange 2007 on?
  • You have two DC/GCs now one Exchange 2000/Windows 2000 and one Windows 2003 R2, correct?
  • What is the forest functional level set to?
  • What server are you running the Exchange 2007 readiness check from?

Sorry, if the post was confusing it was late lastnight and 12 hours into the project..

1. New servers will be Windows Server 2003R2 x64.

2.I have 2 DCs

    •  1 new (Running the as OM,GC,RID,PDC,Infrastructure)= 2003R2 SP2
    •  1 old= 2000 Server SP4 Running Exchange 2000 sp2

3. Just did the Forsest Prep off the 2003r2 cd2 so if I remeber right v31 (I forgot how to pull it off the registry)

4. Running the Exchange Readiness Check off 2 new servers who are members of my domain running 2003r2 x64

The post was fine, I had just read it wrong the first time through....so I have a couple suggestions.

  1. Make sure your Forest functional level is 2000 native or higher: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/322692
  2. Make sure your subnets are properly added to the correct sites in Sites and Services.
  3. If that doesn't work, try and demote the 2000 DC/GC

Well i am rolling up the server to SP3 and the post rollups, do I need to do the 2003sp3 rollup for AD if I just did the Forser and Domain Prep from 2003r2...

 -----------------------------

Also I checked and they are in native mode..

Domain Functional Level = Windows 2000 Native mode

Forest Functional Level = Windows 2000

--------------------------------

Since the 2000 DC is running Exchange 2000 Could that break anything?

Do you have the Exchange 2007 SP1 bits to do the install or are you using RTM? The SP1 bits fix a problem with installing in a site that has DC/GC running versions earliery than Windows Server 2000 SP1.

If you still can't get it to work, I would demote (by running dcpromo again) the Exchange 2000/Windows 2000 DC

Good call NO, I got the Demo installer.  I downloaded an ISO from Microsoft but kept getting a sscript error.  Technet said to Download the DEMO and use my key.

But, I am now downloading the new Exchange 2007 Standard/Enterprise w/SP1 ISO and I hope that works.  If not I guess I might be stuck doing the demotion on a weekend and installing it all. Thanks again for the ideas and the support.

If  you can't get the SP1 install for some reason, they state that when you run the RTM version of setup: "you must use the /DomainController parameter to specify a domain controller that is running Windows Server 2003 SP1 or a later version."

Thanks, it worked.

  •

Now to the real work, MIGRATION...............

  • Party!!!

    So if this happens to be pulled up by a person searching;

Go and get 2007 w SP1 IOS from Technet if you have it.......  If you have a 2000 DC on the network..
