We are currently debating if we should virtualize Exchange 2007 (which will be a fresh install) we are currently using 2003

MY question goes towards; does anyone have experience with a production Exchange server 2007 running on a virtual server?

is it supported my MS ?

Also how well does Outlook 2003 function with Exchange 2007??

Your feedback is greatly appreciated thank you.

The company I work for has been very successful at virtualizing Exchange 2003 and 2007. Microsoft doesn't support the virtualization environment; however they do provide best-effort support if you have the appropriate support contract. They can request that you reproduce the problem on physical hardware, but we haven't run into that situation yet. We would also be able to contact our virtualization vendor for support, if required.

So far we haven't had any problems either way with Exchange.

You will see Microsoft support Exchange on Hyper-V when it is available, so if you choose that for virtualization you will be covered however the jury is still out on performance until it is released and tested.
