Hello Exchange Exchange gurus,
I need to build an Exchange 2000 cluster with 100 GB of storage space.
What is the solution that would be easiest to implement and manage? SAN, dual attached SCSI?
Any help will be appreciated. I used to use compaq cluster servers a few years back, 2 servers in one chassis with disk subsystem, but can't seem to find these solutions anymore.
Thank you.
Thank you for your question
HP still does offer "cluster-in-a-box" solutions. Since it looks like you are starting with about 100GB you will probably want to narrow your selection the package clusters based on the MSA500G2. How many users will you have and will they be using blackberrys?
You can also build your own with two DL380G5 or DL385G2s and a MSA500G2. If you want we can get into the specific part numbers as well.
Are you really going to run Exchange 2000 and not Exchange 2003? There are a ton of clustering improvements in Exchange 2003 that are well worth the upgrade.

If you already have servers in mind you can order a MSA500G2 kit
1x HP Modular Smart Array 500 G2 (includes 2 HBA Adapters) 335880-B21. This kit includes the basic shelf and "HBAs" which are just specialized SCSI cards. If you wanted to be fully redundant you can order the MSA500G2 HA kit (360229-B2) however this requires that multipathing software be installed on your host machines and that you have two slots available for both HBAs.
And then add on your disk:
HP 72GB U320 15K Universal HDD 286778-B22 HP 146GB U320 15K Universal HDD 347708-B21 HP 300GB U320 15K Universal HDD 411089-B22
Make sure to get enough enough disks to meet your IO requirements.
