    NIC

    Hello,

I've been trying to find help on Exchange 2007 and I came across this forum and I'm glad I did.

I have a new Exchange 2007 setup and configured to host our own emails.  I've use to NICs on this one - one is a Public and other is Private.  The public IP is provided by our ISP.  Everything  is working fine including OWA and Outlook Anywhere (rpc over http).  This installation uses one computer with all roles installed on it.  I don't have a EDGE server.  My question is do I need to use two nics or can I just use one NIC and do all the routing on my router?  If I just use a private IP (192.168.x.x) and just route all external traffic on router, will it work?

    TIA,

    Manny

Most likely you would want to use your firewall (or router/nat/firewall) to statically NAT that public address to your Exchange server. Some firewalls call them Virtual services or pin holes. You would create one for SMTP (port 25) and one for OWA/OLA (443).

Thanks, Joel.  I will probably do as you've suggested.  This will then secure the exchange server better I believe.

    Thanks again,

    Manny
